Create a post

Last updated: March 19, 2026

Posts within your community are like the vibrant threads woven into a tapestry of interactions. They serve as versatile tools for sharing resources, making announcements, fostering discussions, narrating stories, and exploring a wide array of topics.

To get started with post creation, head to the post space from the sidebar and click New post.

💡 Tip: If you want to create a post using a Circle mobile app, tap ➕ icon on the control bar. In the post editor, you can add a post title, select a post location, format text using basic formatting options, and add images, videos, or files from the device. Please note that you can only manage post settings or make edits through a browser.

Let’s take a look at how you can create amazing content using a post editor.

Get familiar with the post editor

The post editor provides all the tools you need to create engaging content. Let’s explore its key features to enhance your writing experience.

At the top of the post editor, you'll find essential useful options, such as:

  • Add cover: Choose a visually appealing cover image to make your post stand out. This image will be featured at the top of your post, helping to draw readers in.

  • Post settings: Customize your post’s setup with settings such as permissions, URL slug, custom HTML, and more.

  • Full-screen mode: Maximize your editor window for a distraction-free, immersive writing experience, allowing you to focus entirely on your content.

  • Close editor: Quickly exit the editor if you decide not to proceed with the post creation. This option cancels your draft without saving it.

The bottom of the post editor contains features to help refine your content and control your publishing preferences:

  • Assign topics: Organize your content by selecting relevant topics that align with your post.

  • Post location: Specify or update the location of your post.

  • Toolbar: Enhance your content using the toolbar, which offers a variety of options for attaching media, formatting your text, embedding content, and much more.

  • Delivery options: Choose when your post goes live. You can opt to save it as a draft for later, publish it immediately, or schedule it to be posted at a specific time.

Add a title

Every great post starts with a compelling title. Click the Title field to craft a title for your post.

Add a post cover and thumbnail image

To make your post visually appealing, you can add a cover image to your post.

To add a cover image:

  1. At the top of the editor, click the Add cover icon.

  2. In the image upload dialog, select one of the tabs to:

    • Choose an image from the Unsplash library.

    • Upload the image from your desktop.

    • Embed a link.

  3. To adjust the image when adding it via any of the options, you can:

    • Click and drag the image to fit within the allowed dimension.

    • Use the slider at the bottom of the dialog to zoom in or out on the image.

  4. Click Save.

📷 Recommended image dimensions: 840 x 300 px

Additionally, if you are creating a post in a space set to the card layout, please ensure to add a dedicated card view thumbnail image for optimal results on both desktop and Circle mobile apps. To add the thumbnail image, navigate to the Settings ⚙️ and click Upload next to the Card view thumbnail.

📷 Recommended image dimensions: 600 x 300 px

ℹ️ Note: If there is no thumbnail or cover image set, our system will use the first image in the body of the post as the card thumbnail (desktop and web browsers) or as the post cover image (mobile apps).

📚 For more information, see Configure post settings.

Compose your content

To start writing in the post, click anywhere in the body of the post editor.

Access text formatting options

To access basic text formatting options, type the forward-slash (/) command to open the menu within the editor. From the menu, choose from a variety of options to style your content:

  • Help me write: Utilize the AI content writer to draft your post's content. It helps simplify the writing process by generating content ideas, writing intros and sections, and helping you shape the content in a natural, conversational tone.

  • Paragraph: Create standard text blocks for your content.

  • H2 and H3 headings: Use different heading styles to structure your text effectively.

  • Numbered and bulleted lists: Organize information within the post using lists.

  • Blockquote: Highlight and emphasize specific text with a distinct block quote style.

  • Divider: Add a horizontal divider to separate different sections of your content. Dividers improve visual flow, making your post easier to scan and visually organizing different topics within a single post.

  • Code: Showcase programming or technical content, such as code snippets, in a more suitable format for your audience. Please note that while code blocks are excellent for sharing code snippets with readers, they're not designed to incorporate custom scripts or active code into your posts.

  • Emoji: Incorporate emojis to add personality and expression to your posts.

  • Mention: Tag individuals in your post.

    • ℹ️ Note: If your post space is set to private or secret, you can only mention members that are part of the space. Members will receive notifications for mentions based on the preferences they have set within their community account.

💡 Tip: To embed a link with a preview directly within a post, press Enter after pasting the link in the editor. However, if you want to insert it as a clickable hyperlink, please press the Spacebar first after pasting the link.

To edit written text in the editor, you can also highlight the text by selecting it. A formatting bar will appear with options such as:

  • Help me write: Use the AI content writer to receive assistance with rephrasing, enhancing, summarizing, and translating the selected content directly within the editor.

  • Bold: Emphasize important words or phrases by making them bold.

  • Italic: Use italics to add subtle emphasis, such as for quotes, titles, or unique terms.

  • H2 and H3 headings: Apply H2 or H3 headings within highlighted text to create structured sub-sections in your content.

  • Strikethrough: Cross out text using the strikethrough option to show edits, corrections, or retired ideas in your post.

  • Underline: Underline text to add emphasis or highlight particular points.

  • Hyperlink: Turn highlighted text into a clickable link by adding a URL. Hyperlinks are ideal for referencing additional resources and related content or directing readers to specific pages within or outside your community platform.

Within your post, you can link to various community content, such as other posts, spaces, events, and lessons. This is especially useful for boosting engagement and driving traffic back to key areas or content within your community.

To link the community content, click the # icon on the toolbar or simply type the Hashtag # followed by the title of the content, like the name of the space. As you type, suggestions will pop up. Then select the content you want to link from the results.

Add buttons

Buttons are a powerful way to create clear, actionable calls to action in your posts. They visually stand out and can direct members to important resources, such as your website, a specific community area, a sign-up form, or other key links. Plus, buttons you add to posts are also visible in the Circle mobile app, ensuring your members can engage with these calls to action seamlessly on any device.

To add a button to your post, follow these steps:

  1. Type the forward-slash (/) command in the editor and select Button from the menu.

  2. In the button editor, enter the following details:

    • Enter the button label–this is the text that appears on the button (e.g., "Learn More”).

    • Add the URL or link where the button should direct members when clicked.

    • Customize the button color to match your branding. You can either enter the desired HEX code or click the current color to open the palette and choose a color visually.

  3. Click Save to add the button.

Adjust button alignment

You can control how your button is aligned within the post to optimize its visual impact:

  • Align the button left, center, or right.

  • Make the button more prominent by centering it with an extended-width display.

To adjust the alignment, hover over the button and click the icon corresponding to the alignment style at the top right of the button.

Edit or delete buttons

To modify or remove a button, hover over it. Then, select the edit or delete icon at the top right of the button to make your adjustments.

Add media, embeds, and attachments

To insert media within your text, place your cursor where you want to add it and click the respective icon from the toolbar. Alternatively, type the forward-slash (/) command to open the commands menu and select the preferred option from the menu.

You can add the following to your post:

  • Images and GIFs (powered by Giphy)

    • When including images in your post, you have three options: Upload from your device, choose an image from the Unsplash library, or embed a link.

    • Supported file formats for image uploads are JPG, PNG, and GIF.

    • You also have the flexibility to adjust image alignment. To do this, hover over the uploaded image/GIF and select the alignment icon. Choose between Left or Center alignment to suit your preference.

This is a great way to showcase videos, images, or interactive content from supported platforms. For more information about embeds, see Guide to embedding media in your community.

  • Video

    • You can enhance your posts by adding videos in a variety of formats, such as MP4 and MOV. Videos uploaded here are transcoded for smoother playback and a uniform streaming experience across all platforms.

    • You can customize your uploaded video with options such as adding chapters, enabling transcriptions, and controlling download permissions. Hover over the video player, click the Customize video (setup icon) located in the top-right corner to access these options. For detailed steps, see Guide to video customizations.

  • Audio

    • You can upload audio files in MP3, WAV, and OGG formats.

    • ℹ️ Note: Only admins can download the audio files from the post using a web browser. The option to download audio files is unavailable on Circle mobile apps.

  • File and PDF

    • You have the flexibility to share various types of files or PDF documents as attachments within your text. When a PDF is uploaded to a post, members can view it directly within the post.

  • Voice messages

    • You can now record voice messages in posts. Type the forward-slash (/) command and select Voice message from the command menu or click the microphone icon in the toolbar to start recording a message.

  • Record video clips

    • You can record video clips from your device's camera or share your screen, directly from the post editor. Use the forward-slash (/) command and select Video clip, or click the camera icon in the toolbar to start recording. Video recordings can be up to 30 minutes in length.

      • 📚 To learn more about recording videos in Circle, please see our guide here.

ℹ️ Note: It's important to note that each file you upload - whether it's a video, audio, or other files - has a maximum size limit of 4GB. If you are looking to add a larger file, we suggest exploring the embed options to add media directly from your hosting provider, such as YouTube, Loom, or Vimeo.

To categorize your post within the space using topics, you can assign up to five relevant topics to the post.

To assign a topic, click the selection bar at the bottom of the post editor or type the name of the topic and select it from the list.

💡 Tip: If you’re an admin, you can create a new topic on the go while creating or editing a post. Write your desired topic name on the topic selection bar and select the Create topic option. This will immediately create a new topic and add it to the post and space. For detailed information on managing topics, refer to our guide here.
