Configure post settings
Last updated: April 07, 2024
Post settings provide you with the ability to fine-tune meta details, manage permissions, and boost visibility with SEO enhancements. In this article, we will take a closer look at how you can utilize these settings to optimize your post.
ℹ️ Note: Only admins or moderators can adjust post settings, and this functionality is available exclusively on desktop or mobile browsers.
To access the post settings while creating or editing a post, click Settings ⚙️ in the header of the post editor. Below, we’ll explore each configuration setting in detail.
Set permissions
Permission toggles give you control over how your post is displayed and interacted with. Here’s what you can adjust:
Hide meta info: Turn this on to conceal the author’s name and timestamp.
Hide comments: Enable this to hide existing comments and remove the option to add new comments.
Hide likes: Toggle this on to remove the like option and hide existing likes.
Close comments: Enable this toggle to prevent members from leaving new comments on this post. When enabled, the existing comments will still be visible, accompanied by comments closed banner.
-
Disable truncation: Switch off this toggle to shorten lengthy posts, limiting them to a standard size. Here’s what you need to know:
Whether this option is enabled or disabled, posts will always appear truncated on Circle’s Android app and your branded apps. On Circle’s iOS app, though, the truncation will follow your chosen setting.
If your post space is set to a List or Card layout, this truncation setting will only apply to the pinned post.
Pin post to top*: Enable this toggle to pin this post at the top of the space.
Pin post to the sidebar*: If you have enabled the right sidebar for the space, you can pin this post to the right sidebar in the Trending posts block.
Hide from featured areas**: Turn this on to hide the posts from the Feed and weekly digest.
* Pin post to top or sidebar option only becomes available after you have published the post.** Hide from featured areas option only becomes available after you have scheduled or published a post.
Add a card view thumbnail
If you create a post in a space set to a card layout, we recommend adding a dedicated card view thumbnail image. The image will display prominently on the card on desktop and mobile apps.
To add a card view thumbnail image:
Click Upload next to the Card view thumbnail.
-
To add an image, navigate to one of the following tabs:
Upload: Upload the image from your device.
Unsplash: Choose an image from the Unsplash library.
Embed: Embed an image using a URL.
-
Adjust the image to your preference:
Fit image: Click and drag the image within the allowed dimensions.
Zoom in or out: Use the slider at the bottom of the dialog to zoom in or out on the image.
Click Save changes. If you are editing a post, make sure to save the post as well.
📷 Recommended image dimensions: 600 x 300 px.
Update meta information
Customize key details like author, timestamp, slug, and location to organize and personalize your post.
Publish timestamp
Once you have published the post, you can see the exact date and time of the publication here. To update this timestamp to a different date and time in the past, click the field and select the new date and time.
This can be especially helpful when you want to sort this post in a specific order, such as when the sort order is set to Latest or Oldest.
Post location
You can change the location of the post by clicking the Space dropdown menu and selecting a different space.
Custom URL slug
The ability to add a custom URL slug helps create SEO-friendly and descriptive URLs for your content.
In the Custom URL slug field, assign a custom slug for your post. Please note that the post title will be used as the URL slug if a custom slug is not specified.
For example, if your post space URL is https://community.circle.so/hiking and you published a post about best hiking trails, you might use a slug such as "best-hiking-trails-mountains" to form the URL for that specific post:
https://community.circle.so/hiking/best-hiking-trails-mountains
❗Important: Please note that changing the URL slug of a post won't free up the previous slug for use in any other post. We maintain a record of the old slugs for a post and redirect any attempts to access the post via the old slug to the new one. This prevents one URL slug from pointing to multiple resources, ensuring clarity and accuracy of your community's content.
As a result, if you try to use the old slug already associated with a post in any other post, we will append a unique identifier to the end of the slug. This practice is a safeguard to preserving the integrity of your community's content organization.
Author
By default, the post author is automatically assigned based on the user who creates the post. However, you can manually assign a post author to any community member while creating or editing a post.
Simply type the member's name in the Author field and select from the list. If the member is not part of the space, they will automatically be added to the space.
ℹ️ When you assign a member as a post author, they gain certain privileges, including the ability to edit post content and delete the post.
Add SEO information
You can add SEO information to your post settings after you have published it, saved it as a draft, or scheduled it to be published later. To optimize your post for SEO, you can add the following information:
Add meta title and description
Craft a compelling meta title that accurately represents the content of your post. Keep it concise and relevant.

Add Open Graph title and description
Enhance how your post appears when shared on social media and other platforms by adding an Open Graph title and description.
Ensure you have a captivating image that meets the recommended dimensions: 1200 x 630 px with a 1.91:1 aspect ratio.
