Explore pricing options for paywalls

Last updated: May 2026

Understanding the different pricing structures is crucial when setting up paywalls. These pricing options cater to different membership use cases and can help you determine the best fit for your paywall. In this article, we will discuss the various pricing options available for Circle paywalls.

Subscription

Charge your members on a recurring basis through a subscription model.

Access to paywalled content remains available as long as members are subscribed to the recurring plan. However, members automatically lose access to the spaces associated with the paywall content once the subscription is canceled.

Key features of subscriptions:

  • Multiple payment frequencies: Choose from various subscription pricing options, including:

    • Monthly: Charged every month

    • Bimonthly: Charged every two months

    • Annual: Charged once a year

    • Biennial: Charged every two years

    • Quarterly: Charged every three months

    • Biannual: Charged every six months

    • Biweekly: Charged every two weeks

    • Weekly: Charged once a week

    • Daily: Charged once a day

  • Upfront payments: Charge your member a distinct initial payment with subscription prices.

  • Trials: Offer your members free or paid trials for your subscription paywalls.

  • Subscription changes: Members can change their billing cycle if you have added multiple prices within paywalls. If you have added the paywall to a subscription group, members can also switch to another paywall within the same subscription group.

💡 Tip: You can create paywall trial for subscription prices without upfront payments for new or existing members using our built-in invite methods, existing member’s profile, and workflows.

One-time fee

Another option is to charge members a single one-time payment, granting them lifetime access to the paywalled content without any future recurring payments.

This is a great option for content you want to offer lifetime access to. Members lose access only if they voluntarily leave the spaces associated with paywall access or if a full refund is issued for their one-time fee transaction.

Additionally, you have the flexibility to allow members to repurchase the one-time fee paywalls. This is a great way to charge members for services such as paid coaching, one-to-one mentoring, and more.

Installments

You can also offer members a budget-friendly payment option through installments, which divides a single, one-time fee into manageable installments. Members can pay the total paywall price in several equal payments.

Once all paid installments add up to the total paywall price, members gain permanent access to the paid content. Going forward, members won't be charged for this paywall.

The benefits of installment pricing include:

  • Affordability: Offer members an affordable way to pay a one-time paywall price in installments on a set frequency.

  • Multiple payment frequencies: Choose from weekly, biweekly, monthly, or quarterly installment options.

  • Upfront payments: Charge your member a distinct initial payment with installment prices.

  • Trials: Offer your members free or paid trials for your installment paywalls.

💡 Tip: You can create paywall trials for installment prices without upfront payments for new or existing members using our built-in invite methods, existing member’s profile, and workflows.

Multiple pricing options

Within a paywall, you can offer up to six different pricing options for members, allowing flexibility for different strategies that can help increase the conversion.

For example, you can offer monthly and annual memberships if you want to create a subscription-based model for your memberships. The annual price can be set as a bit of a discount to show the value of opting for an annual subscription. This can result in higher retention rates. Meanwhile, the monthly subscription option provides your members with a more affordable option.

If you are looking into a one-time fee model, you can create both one-time fee and installment prices within a paywall. Installments can be used to break down the cost of a one-time fee, making it easier for members who want to purchase the paywall but cannot afford the higher one-time fee.

Upfront payment

With upfront payment, you can charge your members a distinct initial payment followed by recurring subscription or installment payments.

For instance, if one of your paywalls with a recurring subscription is priced at $20 per month. You could charge $30 for the first month and then $20 monthly thereafter.

Trials

In addition to your paywall offerings, you have the ability to offer a trial period of up to 730 days for paywall purchases with subscription and installment prices.

The trial period gives your potential members a chance to try out your paywalled content before committing to a paywall purchase. It allows you to showcase the value of your content and the benefits of becoming a member. This can encourage more people to join your community and increase overall revenue.

Trial options:

  • Free trials: Offer complimentary trial periods on subscription and installment pricing, with or without upfront payments.

  • Paid trials: Provide paid trial options for subscription and installment pricing, utilizing upfront payments.
