Setting up a new chat space

Chat spaces are one of the six space types we offer in the community allowing you to host discussions in your community.
Just like any other space type, you can create chat spaces under one of the space groups to:
Host discussions for focused groups.
Help new members during their onboarding.
Introduce new members to your community.
Host a chat room for your internal teams.
❗Important: Please note that the chat spaces have a limit of 10,000 members at a time to ensure a meaningful and manageable interaction experience for everyone. If the chat space has already reached its maximum capacity, new members will not be able to join the space, even if it is included in their community access. However, members can still sign up and access other spaces based on the access they have received via the sign up method.
Create a chat space
To create a chat space under a specific space group:

Hover over the space group, click the ➕ icon, and select Add space.
Select the Chat space type and click Next.

Set up the chat space (please see below for more details).
Click Create space.

Add a space Icon: Add an icon of your choice that'll be displayed in your community's left sidebar and space header. For more information, see Set up a space icon.
Add space name: Name your chat space.
Space group: The space group will be pre-filled based on where you began creating the new space. However, if you've changed your mind, you can choose a different space group from the dropdown.
Add members from this space group: Enabling this toggle will automatically add all the members from the space group.
Select access level: Choose from Open, Private, or Secret access. For more information, see Managing space access and visibility.
New post notifications: You can choose a default notification setting for new messages within the chat space that will be applied to new members when they join the space. You can update this setting later in the space settings for your new and existing space members.
You will now be taken to the newly created space, where you can customize space settings and start engaging with your members!
