Integrating third-party payment solutions with Circle

Last updated: January 29, 2023

You can set up automation to manage community access for your paid members if you already have a payment solution in place or want to use a payment provider outside of Circle, provided the payment solution is available for Circle integration through Zapier.

💡 Tip: We recommend using our built-in feature Circle paywalls to monetize your community content for a seamless member management experience! To learn more about the paywalls, see the Paywall setup section in the Help Center.

💡 Tip: If you wish to use another platform to create automated workflow for this, you can also consider alternative tools such as Make or Integrately.

How does the Zapier integration work?

Zapier is a platform for automating workflows by configuring a specific trigger and action in your connected apps. Circle is available on Zapier, allowing you to connect thousands of apps with your community.

To get started:

  1. Search for your payment provider’s availability on Zapier here.

  2. Set up a Zapier account if you haven’t already.

  3. If you are new to Zapier, check out the help guide on creating Zaps for your connected apps.

📚 To learn more about connecting your community with Zapier, see Connect Zapier to your community.

Once you are ready, please see the following to set up our recommended Zaps for managing members in your community.

Set up a Zap to invite members

You can set up a Zap to automate the flow for inviting members to your community when they purchase a membership through your third-party payment app, eliminating manual administration work.

To set up the Zap for inviting members:

  1. Navigate to your Zapier account.

  2. Find your payment app in Zapier here.

  3. Click Create Zap.

  4. Select a trigger for Zap:

    • Choose the payment app and event (e.g., Customer successfully completed payment or signed up for a new plan).

    • Choose from an existing account or connect a new account for your payment app.

  5. Select an action for Zap:

    • Choose the Circle app and event (e.g., Invite a Member to your community).

    • Choose from an existing account or connect a new account for your community using a Zapier token.

  6. Publish Zap.

Once the Zap is published:

  1. Members subscribe to a new plan via a third-party app.

  2. Zapier detects the trigger event and initiates the action to send a community invitation to the member.

  3. The member accepts the invite, sets up their profile, and gains access to the community.

Set up a Zap to remove members

Similar to member invitation Zap, you can set up another to automate the flow for removing members from your community when they cancel subscriptions.

To set up the Zap for removing members:

  1. Navigate to your Zapier account.

  2. Click Create Zap.

  3. Select a trigger for Zap:

    • Choose the payment app and event (e.g., Subscription is canceled by customer).

    • Choose from an existing account or connect a new account for your payment app.

  4. Select an action for Zap

    • Choose the Circle app and event (e.g., Remove members from your community).

    • Choose from an existing account or connect a new account for your community using a Zapier token.

  5. Publish Zap.

Once the Zap is published:

  1. Member cancels subscription via a third-party app.

  2. Zapier detects the trigger event and initiates the action to remove the member from your community.
