Sending voice messages

In the era of digital conversations, messages are becoming more dynamic and expressive, and words alone sometimes fall short of conveying messages. Enter the realm of voice messages! Whether you are catching up, collaborating on tasks, or connecting with fellow community members, the power of voice messages adds a whole new dimension to your conversations.

Voice messages are available in the following areas of your community:

• One-to-one and group DMs

• Chat spaces

• Posts

• Comments

❗️ Important: Voice messages are enabled by default for posts and comments. For chat spaces and DMs, they can be managed through direct message settings.

You can send voice messages in any chat space, DM conversation, post, or comment, whether you’re using Circle on desktop (web browsers or the Circle desktop app) or our mobile apps. Use them to share quick updates, reply on the go, add tone to your responses, or offer thoughtful feedback and encouragement.

Let’s explore how to send voice messages on desktop (web browsers and the Circle desktop app).

Chat spaces or DM conversations

1. Navigate to a chat space or DM conversation.

2. Click the Microphone 🎙️ icon in the messaging field to initiate the recording and start speaking.

   • To cancel while recording, click the X icon.

     

3. Once you’re done speaking, click the Checkmark ✔️ icon to stop and finalize the recording.

   • To replay the recorded audio, click the Play ▶️ icon. You can use the audio bar to skip through.

   • To remove the recorded audio, click the X icon on the audio message.

     

4. Continue editing your message with any text or media. When you're ready, click the Send ⬆️ icon to send it.

Posts and comments

1. Create a new post, or navigate to an existing post and start a comment.

   

2. Click the Microphone 🎙️ icon in the editor’s tool bar to initiate the recording and start speaking.

   • To cancel while recording, click the X icon.

     

3. Once you’re done speaking, click the Checkmark ✔️ icon to stop and finalize the recording.

   • To replay the recorded audio, click the Play ▶️ icon. You can use the audio bar to skip through.

   • To remove the recorded audio, hover over the audio and click the X icon.

4. Continue editing your post or comment and when you're ready, click Post or Publish.

In this section, we’ll go over how to send voice messages through mobile apps.

Chat spaces or DM conversations

1. Open a chat space or DM and tap the Microphone 🎙️ icon in the messaging field to record your voice message, similar to how it's done on a desktop.

   • To cancel while recording, tap the X icon.

     

2. Once you’re done speaking, tap the Checkmark ✔️ icon to stop and finalize the recording.

   • To replay the recorded audio, tap the recorded message (on iOS) or tap the Play ▶️ icon (on Android). You can use the audio bar to skip through audio recording.

   • To remove the recorded audio, tap the X icon on the message.

     

3. Continue editing your message with any text or media. When you're ready, click the Send ⬆️ icon to send it.

Posts and comments

1. Tap the Plus ➕ icon and create a new post or, navigate to an existing post and start a comment.

   

2. Click the Microphone 🎙️ icon in the editor’s tool bar to initiate the recording and start speaking.

   • To cancel while recording, click the X icon.

     

3. Once you’re done speaking, click the Checkmark ✔️ icon to stop and finalize the recording.

   • To replay the recorded audio, tap the Play ▶️ icon. You can use the audio bar to skip through the audio recording.

     • ℹ️ Note: To replay the recorded audio in a comment, tap the recorded message.

   • To remove the recorded audio, tap the the X icon.

     

4. Continue editing your post or comment and when you're ready, click Post or Publish.

Voice messages include an integrated audio player for messages, allowing the recipient to listen to voice messages directly within the message on either desktop or mobile apps.

To listen to a voice message, click the Play ▶️ icon. You can use the audio bar to skip through the message.

💡 Tip: If you have enabled automated transcriptions in your community, a transcription will be generated under the voice messages on desktop!
