Report inappropriate content in your community

Last updated: October, 2026

All community members can report content that goes against the community guidelines to bring it to the attention of admins and moderators. In this article, you’ll learn how to report posts, comments, and chat messages across your community.

About manual reporting

Any member, admin, or moderator in the community can manually report inappropriate content in the following areas of the community:

  • Post spaces: Posts and comments

  • Image spaces: Posts and comments

  • Event spaces: Comments

  • Direct messages: Messages and replies

  • Chat spaces: Chat messages and replies

  • Live chat rooms: Messages and replies

Key things to know about reporting content

  • The ability to report content is supported on:

    • Desktop app

    • Web browsers

    • Circle’s Android app

    • Branded iOS and Android apps

  • You cannot report content posted by the admin or moderator of the space.

What happens when you report content

Posts and comments

When you report a post or comment, it remains visible in the community until an admin or moderator reviews the report. Depending on the moderation settings configured by your admin, certain reported content may be flagged and hidden immediately. For more information about these exceptions, see Get to know content moderation.

Once reported, admins and moderators of that space receive a notification to review it.

  • If approved: The content remains visible to the community.

  • If rejected: The content is removed permanently.

ℹ️ Note: A report is only counted once toward the threshold settings, even if you report the same post or comment multiple times. For more information, please see this article on Threshold settings.

Messages

When you report a chat message, it is marked as In review but remains visible to all participants. Reported messages are not hidden or removed automatically.

Once reported, admins and moderators receive an in-app and email notification to review it.

  • If approved: The message stays visible and the In review status is cleared.

  • If rejected: The message is removed. When rejecting, admins and moderators can also disable chat messaging or direct messaging for the member who sent it.

ℹ️ Note: Reporting a message does not hide or remove it. The message stays visible to all participants until an admin or moderator explicitly rejects it.

Reporting inappropriate content

  2. Hover over the space name and click More actions (three dots) and select View space.

  3. Find the post or comment you want to report.

  4. Click More actions (three dots) in the top-right corner of the post, comment or message and select Report post/Report comment.

  5. Choose the reason for reporting from the dropdown menu.

  7. Click Report.

Create a moderation workflow from a template (optional)

When you report a post as an admin, you will see a dialog with the option to create a moderation workflow from a template using AI filters and actions.

Click Review workflow to preview the template, then select Use this template in the top-right corner to make any necessary changes. Once updated, you can save the workflow as a draft or activate it immediately.

💡 Tip: recommend reviewing your existing moderation workflows before activating the new one to avoid duplicates.

Report a chat message

  2. Hover over the message and click the More actions (three dots) icon.

  4. Choose a reason for reporting: Harassment, Spam, Against guidelines, or Other.

  5. (Optional) Add details to provide more context.
