As an admin, you have the ability to apply coupons to a member's existing subscription or installment purchase. This article will guide you through important information and steps to apply or remove coupons.
About coupons
Coupons are a great way to provide discounts on member’s paywall purchases. Here’s how the ability to apply coupons to existing purchases can help:
Apply coupons to specific member purchases to offer personalized promotional discounts. For example, provide 20% off the next subscription charge to members who attend an event or participate in an activity.
Provide coupons on existing subscriptions to correct billing errors or adjust subscription pricing.
When a member is not satisfied with membership or experiencing issues, apply the coupon as a goodwill gesture. You can also apply the coupon as a workaround for members who are looking to pause their membership for a short period of time.
💡 Tip: If a coupon has already been applied to the member subscription or installment purchase, you can remove it to stop providing discounts or replace it with another coupon.

Coupon eligibility:
You can apply active or inactive coupons to existing member subscriptions and installment purchases.
As an admin, you can apply the coupon, regardless of how the Redeemable until setting is configured in the coupon setup.
Coupons designated for specific paywalls can only be applied if the member has an active subscription or installment purchase for that paywall.

Coupon currency:
Coupons offering a fixed amount discount are only applicable to member purchases in the same currency as the coupon.
Coupons offering a percentage discount on charges can be applied to member purchases in any currency.

Coupon duration: When you add a coupon to an existing purchase, it applies to future recurring charges for the duration of the coupon.
Example 1: A 2-month coupon applied to a monthly subscription will provide a discount on the next two monthly charges.
Example 2: If a coupon with a 3-month duration is applied to a paywall purchase with a trial duration, followed by an upfront payment and then monthly installments, the coupon will apply to the upfront payment and the first two installment charges.

Coupon application: Coupons can only be applied to paid charges of the active subscription or installments.
When a coupon is applied, it discounts future charges only; current or past charges are not affected by the coupon.
If a coupon is applied during a trial period, it will take effect when the paid subscription or installment charges begin.
For paid trials, the coupon will be applied once the paid subscription or installment charges start.
If a coupon is applied during a trial period of a paywall subscription that includes an upfront payment, once the trial ends, the coupon will be applied to the upfront payment and subsequent paid subscription charges based on its duration.
Apply a coupon to an existing subscription or installment
Click Payments in the left sidebar, then select Subscriptions.
Click the More actions (three dots) beside the member’s subscription or installment entry and select Apply coupon.
Select the coupon code from the dropdown list and click Confirm.
You’ll be presented with coupon discount information, including the coupon duration and total due at the next charge. Review the details and click Confirm.
