Remove affiliate attribution

Last updated: August, 2026

The flexibility to manage affiliate attribution for paywall sales empowers you to maintain control over your affiliate program. This article will guide you through the process of removing attribution and how this action can impact the commission at different stages.

About removing affiliate attribution

Whether it’s subscription, installment, or one-time fee paywall sales, you have the flexibility to remove existing affiliate attribution or add a new attribution for any administrative reasons. Let’s explore the implications for commissions at various stages.

Subscription and installment

You have the flexibility to remove affiliate attribution of an active subscription or installment anytime. Here’s how the removal of existing attribution affects the associated commissions in different statuses:

  • Pending and due: Removing existing attribution will remove any pending or due commission from that affiliate. If you later decide to assign a new affiliate attribution to this same subscription or installment sale, then those unpaid commissions for past payments will be assigned to the new affiliate.

  • Processing or paid: Commissions in processing or paid status will remain associated with the removed affiliate and cannot be transferred to a new affiliate.

  • Future commissions: Once affiliate attribution is removed, no future commissions will be associated with the removed affiliate. If you decide to add a new affiliate attribution, the new affiliate will receive commissions for all future payments related to the subscription or installment sale based on your configured commission rate for the respective paywall price.

For canceled subscriptions or installment sales, if all the commissions are in processing or paid status, you won’t be able to remove or add affiliate attribution.

One-time fee

For a one-time fee, you can remove the existing affiliate as long as the commission associated with the payment is still pending or due. Here’s how it works:

  • Pending or due commission: If the commission for a one-time fee sale is in pending or due status, it will be removed from the existing attribution. If you decide to add a new affiliate attribution to this sale, the unpaid commission for the transaction will be awarded to the new affiliate.

  • Processing or paid commission: If the commission for the one-time fee transaction is in processing or paid status, you won’t be able to remove the existing attribution.

To remove existing attribution from a one-time fee paywall sale:

  1. Click Payments in the left sidebar, then select Transactions.

  2. Click More actions (three dots) beside the member’s one-time fee transaction and select Manage affiliate attribution.

  3. In the Manage affiliate attribution dialog, hover over the affiliate’s name and click Remove.

  4. Click Confirm.

ℹ️ Note: Affiliate attribution can be manually added or removed only for transactions with the One-time payment pricing type. This does not apply to subscriptions or installments.

ℹ️ Note: You can also manually attribute a member’s purchase from their profile. Search for the member by name or email, open their profile, and click Edit. Navigate to the Billing tab, then under Membership history, hover over the relevant subscription or transaction, click More actions (three dots), and select Manage affiliate attribution.

Add affiliate attribution

If there isn't an affiliate attribution added to the paywall sale or if you have already removed the attribution, you can add the new attribution to the sale.

Once a paywall sale has no attribution associated with it, when you click More actions (three dots) beside the subscription or transaction entry, you can see the Add affiliate attribution option, which allows you to add a new attribution.
