Custom code snippets

About code snippets
Circle gives you a flexible way to tailor the look, feel, and tracking capabilities of your community using custom code. Whether you want to adjust your community’s styling, add custom meta tags, or connect third-party analytics tools like Google Analytics or Meta Pixel, the Code snippets feature allows you to inject custom code safely into your community.
❗️ Important: Due to the diverse range of possible customizations and how certain CSS, HTML or JavaScript snippets may interact with our own front-end code, Circle cannot guarantee that all custom code will work on our platform as intended.
Access code snippets
To access code snippets, click Website in the left sidebar, then select Code snippets.
Understanding the available options for custom code
The code snippets page contains two main areas where you can input code:
-
Head code snippets: This section lets you insert code that will be placed right before the closing </head> tag of your community site. Use this field for:
Lightweight CSS
Custom meta tags
Site verification tags
JavaScript code snippets: This section allows you to add tracking scripts like Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or other services, without needing to wrap the code in <script> tags.
Using the code editor
Code snippets use a Circle’s built-in code editor designed to help you write faster and catch errors quickly. The code editor includes:
Syntax highlighting: The editor color codes your HTML, CSS, and JavaScript based on type. Embedded <style> and <script> blocks in the Head field are also highlighted, so the code reads clearly.
Autocomplete: As you type, the editor suggests HTML tags and attributes, CSS properties and values, and JavaScript keywords and APIs. Select a suggestion to complete the term without typing it in full.
Themes: The editor follows your community theme, switching between dark and light modes based on your selection.
Linting: The JavaScript field includes a linter, a tool that checks your code for common errors as you write. It flags <script> and </script> tags in your code, since Circle adds those automatically. Note that including your own will cause errors.
Support for custom code
Custom code is a self-serve feature, our support team cannot assist with or troubleshoot issues that may arise due to its use in your community.
If you encounter broken CSS in your community caused by custom code snippets, you can quickly resolve it by temporarily deactivating them.

Need help with advanced customizations?
While Circle’s support team can’t assist with or troubleshoot custom code, you're not alone. If you’re looking to go beyond lightweight styling or analytics, you might consider working with a developer who’s familiar with Circle’s ecosystem.
We recommend working with one of our Solutions Partners who are independent service providers, agencies, and community consultants who know Circle inside and out.
