Workflows are a powerful way to automate repetitive tasks and perform bulk actions across your community, helping you save time, reduce administrative overhead, scale your community operations, and deliver more personalized member experiences. They also create new opportunities to streamline community management and strengthen your engagement strategies.

### Key features of workflows

- **Include members and non-members** : With workflows, you can set up triggers, audience rules, and actions to target members and non-members added to your audience CRM. This flexibility helps you manage outreach and engagement across your entire audience more effectively.

- **Variety of actions** : Workflows provide a diverse range of actions to enhance your community. You can provide access to members, add tags, send marketing emails, subscribe members to a paywall trial, and much more; each action is designed to drive engagement and support your community goals.

- **AI workflows** : Use [AI filter and AI actions](https://help.circle.so/p/workflows/workflow-setup/getting-started-with-ai-workflows) powered by AI agents and built-in AI capabilities to create always-on automations that help you run your community with less effort and greater impact.

- **Apply filter conditions** : Build workflow triggers and actions with filter conditions to precisely target individuals meeting specific criteria.

- **Edit workflows:** Workflows are fully editable, allowing you to modify their setup as your needs evolve. This flexibility means you don’t have to duplicate or archive existing workflows to make changes, saving time and reducing effort.

- **Send personalized communications** : Use workflows to deliver highly personalized content, including direct messages (DMs), custom push notifications, and emails (through Email Hub). This allows you to create meaningful connections with your audience through relevant and targeted communication.

- **Duplicate workflows:** Easily duplicate workflows to reuse successful setups for similar tasks. This feature saves time, ensures consistency, and simplifies the process of building new workflows.

- **Task history** : Track workflow performance with detailed task history. For every automation workflow action or bulk action run, a task history is generated. This provides insights into execution status.

### Workflow types

Workflows are versatile, with three types available to suit different use cases:

- **Automation workflow** : Automate tasks with triggers and multiple actions. For example, you can set up a workflow to automatically reward members with gamification points when they complete a course. These workflows run automatically whenever the trigger event occurs.

- **Bulk action workflow** : Perform actions for a specific audience by setting up audience rules such as custom profile fields, spaces, or paywalls. For instance, you can run a bulk action to send direct messages to all members of a particular space. Bulk action workflows are ideal for one-time tasks targeting specific groups.

- **Scheduled workflow** : Scheduled workflows are bulk action workflows with the added ability to set execution times. Schedule them as a one-time task or on a recurring basis, eliminating the need for manual execution. For example, you can schedule a workflow to remove a cohort from a space group on a predetermined date.

## **Availability**

The workflow availability, including triggers, audience rules, actions, and limits, is based on your community plan and Email Hub subscription.

Key information:

- **Standard workflow availability** : Workflows with standard triggers, audience rules, and actions are available on the Business plan and higher.

- **Filter conditions** : Communities can use the audience filters in **filter conditions** for workflow triggers and actions they have access to, at no extra cost.

- **AI workflows** : AI filter (part of the filter conditions for triggers) and AI actions are available on the **Circle Plus** plan.

- **Marketing automations** : Triggers and actions that are part of [marketing automation](https://help.circle.so/p/email-hub/marketing-automation/get-to-know-marketing-automations) require the Email Hub subscription in addition to your community subscription. It allows you to set up exclusive actions like “Send an email” and “Unsubscribe from email marketing” in workflows.

- **Professional plan with Email Hub** : If you are on a Professional plan with an Email Hub subscription, you can create workflows using any trigger or audience rule. However, actions are limited to those supported by Email Hub (e.g., sending emails or managing tags) on the Professional plan.

> ℹ️ **Note** : Workflows are also available to communities on the Enterprise plan which is no longer available. For more information, see [Circle legacy plans](https://help.circle.so/p/administration/account/circle-legacy-plans).
