Key considerations for payment methods
Dynamic payment method display
While you can enable all payment methods, their availability depends on several factors: the currency, the transaction amount, and the member's browser. This ensures that members see the most relevant and supported payment options during checkout.
Additionally, the availability of certain payment methods, such as Pix and buy now, pay later (BNPL) options, depends on the country associated with your Stripe business account. For instance, if your business is registered in Brazil, BNPL methods will not be available.
Card payments
If certain payment methods are unavailable to members, they can still complete their purchase using a credit or debit card. This provides a reliable fallback option, ensuring that transactions can always be completed.
Digital wallets
Apple Pay and Google Pay payment methods are displayed on the checkout page, depending on the member's browser or device. Here are some key details about the availability of digital wallets.
Apple Pay: Apple Pay is supported exclusively in Safari on desktop. On iOS devices, regardless of the mobile browser, only Apple Pay is available.
Google Pay: Google Pay is available only in Chrome on desktop. On Android devices, regardless of the browser, only Google Pay is available.
Regional limitation: Both Apple Pay and Google Pay payment methods are unavailable in India.Pix
This payment method option is exclusively available for Brazilian Stripe accounts connected to Circle paywalls. When enabled, members can purchase paywalls with one-time fee pricing for an amount between 0.50 BRL and 15,000 BRL.
Link
Stripe Link allows frictionless checkout for members using online card brand payment methods. Members can use the 1-click checkout with Link option under the card payment method section, which automatically fills in saved card details for a quicker experience. If they haven't signed up for Link, they can do so for a faster checkout in the future.
Buy now, pay later
Buy now, pay later providers are only available for paywalls with one-time fee prices. Also, BNPL options will only appear on the checkout page if the paywall currency matches the member’s geographic region. For example, if a member is US and buying a paywall membership in GBP, it will not show any BNPL payment methods.
SEPA Direct Debit
SEPA Direct Debit allows you to collect payments directly from customer bank accounts across the SEPA region, which includes 36 European countries. It operates similarly to ACH or bank draft payments in the US. This payment method is available to customers with bank accounts in SEPA member countries and for purchases displayed in Euros (EUR). Customers outside the SEPA region or using non-EUR currencies will not see SEPA Direct Debit as an option during checkout.
Bancontact
Bancontact is Belgium’s leading online payment method, used by millions of customers with Belgian bank accounts. Payments are made via Bancontact cards or mobile apps, providing secure, instantly confirmed transactions. Bancontact is available only to customers located in Belgium and for purchases displayed in Euros (EUR). Customers outside Belgium or using non-EUR currencies will not see Bancontact at checkout.
iDEAL
iDEAL is a Netherlands-based payment method that allows customers to pay online directly through their bank accounts using their existing banking credentials. It’s supported by all major Dutch banks and is the most widely used online payment method in the Netherlands. iDEAL is only available to customers located in the Netherlands and for purchases displayed in Euros (EUR). Customers outside the Netherlands or using any other currency will not see iDEAL as a payment option at checkout.
