AI Agents are your always-available assistant built right into the community. Whether you’re a new member or have questions about your account the agents are ready to support you with 24/7 help. Each agent is tailored to a community’s unique needs, making it easier than ever to get the most out of your experience. In this article, we’ll look at how you can engage with AI Agents.

## About AI Agents

As a member, you can access the agents that the community has made available to you. Some communities may have multiple agents to handle various scenarios, such as account management, community-related questions, and course content. When a human touch is needed, the community team can also jump in to assist with your query.

### Platform support

When enabled by a community, you can engage with multiple AI Agents across browsers, the Circle desktop app, Circle mobile apps and branded mobile apps. On the mobile apps, you can currently interact with agents via direct messages (DMs) only.

### Welcome message

You may receive a welcome message from an agent depending on the admin’s configuration. While you will not receive a notification, a welcome message will be displayed in your Direct messages inbox. You can click the agent to view the message and start a conversation.

## Start a conversation with an AI Agent

There are two ways to start engaging with an AI Agent. Through the community search and direct messages (DMs).

### Starting a conversation through direct messages (DMs)

This is supported across the platform (browsers, Circle desktop app and all mobile apps)

**To start an agent conversation from the mobile app:**

1. Tap the **Direct messages** icon on the far right of the bottom navigation bar.

2. Tap the **New message** (➕) icon on the top right and select the **Agents** pill.

3. Select the agent you’d like to engage with (some communities may have multiple agents).

4. Type in your question and tap send to start the conversation.

**To start an agent conversation from a browser or desktop app:**

1. Click the **Direct messages** icon on the top right of the page.

2. Select the **AI Agents** tab and click the **New message** (➕) icon.

3. Click **To** and choose the agent from the dropdown list of available agents.

4. Type in your question and press **Enter** to start the conversation

### Starting a conversation through search

To start a conversation through search:

1. Click the **search bar** in the right corner of the top navigation bar.

2. Type in your question and select one of the available Agents.

3. You will be directed to a new conversation with the agent.

> 💡 **Tip:** You can only initiate a conversation through search. Old conversations can only be revisited through direct messages (DMs)

## Conversations

Your agent conversations are located under the AI agents tab on your direct messages (DMs) page. The most recent agent conversation will also be pinned to the top of your **inbox**.

When you start or re-open a conversation with an agent, the right sidebar displays information to guide your experience. The **New conversation** button lets you start a new thread with the same agent. This is helpful if you’d like to keep your conversations separate. You can have multiple conversations with the same agent.

The **Bio** tells you what the agent is here to help with, so you know exactly what kind of support to expect.

Below the bio, you’ll see a list of **suggested questions**. These are quick prompts you can click to kick off the conversation. Whether you want to explore what the agent can do or get a quick answer, the suggested questions make it easy to get started.

### Communicating with the agent

AI Agents only support text-based conversations at this time.

**Text formatting**

You can format your message by highlighting any word or sentence and selecting **bold** , **italic** , **strikethrough** , or **underline** from the formatting toolbar.

The composer also supports emojis. Type a colon (:) to open the emoji picker and choose the one that fits your message.

**Cited sources**

When available, agent responses will include sources so you can see exactly where the information is coming from. These sources can include community posts and course lessons. Account-related questions will contain links to knowledge base articles, making it easy to dive deeper or double-check the details.

If a source is available, click the sources button right below the agent’s response to see the linked post or lesson. It’s a simple way to get helpful answers and know they’re backed by real content from within the community.

### AI paused indicator

In some situations, a team member may pause the AI Agent to step in and assist you directly. This might happen when your question needs more detailed expertise or involves a topic that’s better handled by a human. Some agents are also set up to automatically hand off the conversation to a team member, ensuring you get the right kind of support, exactly when it’s needed.

When paused, the AI will stop replying, and you’ll see an **AI Paused** indicator within the conversation.

### Long conversation indicator

When a conversation becomes lengthy, you will see a banner prompting you to start a new conversation with the agent. If the conversation reaches the limit, you will no longer be able to respond in that conversation and will instead see a banner encouraging you to begin a new one.

Click the **New conversation** button to start a new chat with the same agent. This ensures that responses remain timely, relevant, and efficient, creating a smoother user experience.
