# Understanding event notifications

Event notifications are designed to keep space members and event attendees informed and ensure that they never miss an exciting event. This article outlines the types of event notifications available in your community and explains who can manage them.

## **About event notifications**

With event notifications, members stay in the loop through a variety of updates, including:

- New event notifications

- Event invites

- Event confirmations

- Event reminders

- Event updates

> 💡 **Tip:** In addition to system notifications, if you would like to send custom push notifications or DM reminders for events, you can take advantage of our [**workflows**](https://help.circle.so/c/workflows/) feature to set up a custom [**automation**](/p/workflows/workflow-setup/set-up-a-custom-automation-workflow), [**bulk action**](/p/workflows/workflow-setup/set-up-a-custom-bulk-action-workflow), or [**scheduled**](/p/workflows/workflow-setup/schedule-a-bulk-action-workflow) workflow.

## **New event notifications**

Event space members receive notifications for new events posted in the space, provided they have opted to receive notifications for new events.

As an admin or space moderator, you can set default notification preferences for new space members from your event space settings. For more details, see our guide [here](https://help.circle.so/p/audience/notifications/manage-default-notification-preferences-for-space-members).

> ℹ️ **Note** : Event space members have the ability to override notification settings for new events according to their[](/p/audience/notifications/understanding-community-notifications)[**notification preferences**](/p/audience/notifications/understanding-community-notifications)[](/p/audience/notifications/understanding-community-notifications)by visiting the notification settings page in their community account.

## **Event invites**

When members are invited to an event, they receive an email invitation containing:

- Event details such as the date, time, and location.

- Links to view the event and confirm their attendance.

These invite emails are system-generated, making it easy for invitees to RSVP and stay informed about the event.

## **Event confirmations**

When members RSVP to an event or accept an event invitation, they receive a confirmation email with key event details and a calendar invite. This makes it easy for attendees to add the event to their schedules and plan ahead. 

As an admin, moderator, or event creator, you can manage this notification preference when editing a draft or published event from the[](https://help.circle.so/p/live-and-events/events/publish-an-event-draft?locale=en#confirmation)[Notifications](https://help.circle.so/p/live-and-events/events/publish-an-event-draft?locale=en#confirmation) tab. You can also decide to include a custom thank you message in the confirmation email. **We recommend** keeping the confirmation email notifications turned on, as these notifications play a vital role in the [RSVP](https://help.circle.so/p/members/live-and-events/rsvp-and-attend-community-events) process. 

## **Event reminders**

Keeping attendees informed is crucial for successful events. You can set up the following reminders to help attendees stay on track:

- **In-app reminder:** Send an in-app notification one hour before the event begins.

- **Email reminders:** Schedule personalized emails with a custom subject, message, and delivery time.

## **Event updates**

To keep event attendees informed about changes, when you update an event’s start date, time, or location, attendees automatically receive an email notification with the updated event details and calendar invite. This applies to standalone events as well as events within a recurring series.

If you delete an event, attendees will receive an automated cancelation email to notify them of the change.
