After sending a marketing email, you can track its performance using key metrics to understand how recipients interact with it. This article will walk you through the steps to access the analytics and explain various metrics.

## **Access the email analytics**

You can view analytics for any marketing email sent through **broadcasts** or **Send an email** workflow actions.

To access the broadcast analytics:

1. Click **Marketing** in the left sidebar, then select **Broadcasts**.

2. Navigate to the **Sent** tab and locate the broadcast.

3. Hover over the broadcast, click **More actions (three dots)** and select **Analytics**.

To access the email analytics for a workflow:

1. Click **Workflows** in the left sidebar, then select **Workflows**.

2. Navigate to the relevant tabs and locate the workflow.

3. Click the workflow title or **More actions (three dots)** next to the workflow, then select **View**.

4. Click the email action card.

5. In the right sidebar, go to the **Performance** section and click **Show full report**.

## Analytics overview

The Analytics page gives you a full picture of your email’s performance. You’ll see key details such as:

- **Broadcast name** : The title of the email broadcast.

- **Number of recipients** : The total number of people who received the email. Click this number to view the full recipient list.

- **Subject and delivery** : The email subject line and the exact time it was sent.

- **Key metrics** : Performance stats, such as open rates, click rates, bounces, and unsubscribes.

- **Recipients** : A list of recipients categorized by email events (e.g., opened, clicked, unsubscribed).

- **Links & files** : Insights on links and file attachments included in the email.

Regularly reviewing your email analytics helps you learn what captures your audience’s attention and what doesn’t. Over time, these insights will help you create more engaging, higher-performing campaigns that deliver real results.

## **Key email metrics**

Understanding how well your email broadcast performs is crucial for optimizing future broadcasts. The following metrics provide info on how well your email was received.

> ℹ️ **Note:** These metrics provide statistics of your email’s performance. To see detailed recipient-level insights, such as who opened, clicked, or unsubscribed, refer to the **Recipient insights** section below.

### **Delivered**

This shows the total number of emails successfully delivered to recipients, along with the delivery rate, a percentage of emails that reached inboxes.

A high delivery rate generally indicates that your content is getting through email service providers. To help boost the delivery rates, focus on sending high-quality content that encourages recipients to engage and click through links.

### **Opened**

The open rate shows how many recipients opened your email. This is measured by unique opens, meaning each recipient is counted only once, even if they open the email multiple times.

With this metric, you can gauge the effectiveness of your subject lines, preview text, and the initial interest in your email. However, keep in mind that recent changes to certain email client policies (like [Apple's Mail Privacy Protection](https://dma.org.uk/article/relevance-of-the-email-open-rate-metric-after-apple-mpp)) may inflate open rates by automatically marking emails as opened without user interaction.

### **Clicked**

The click rate reflects the percentage of unique recipients who clicked links in your email. Like the open rate, this is a unique count: even if a recipient clicks multiple links or the same link more than once, they are counted only once.

This is a good indicator of how well your content resonates with your audience and how compelling your call to action or resources are. A high click rate suggests that your email content is engaging and that recipients are interested in learning more or taking action. If your click rate is low, consider revisiting your email’s structure. Testing different content layouts and the placement of buttons and resource links can help increase engagement.

> ℹ️ **Note** : Clicks on the links within the footer (e.g., unsubscribe) are not counted in this metric.

### **Hard bounced**

Hard bounces occur when emails fail to be delivered due to permanent issues, typically because the recipient's email address is invalid or no longer in use. Note that this metric does not include temporary failures or soft bounces.

### **Unsubscribed**

This metric tracks how many people clicked the unsubscribe link and opted out of receiving future emails from you.

Monitoring unsubscribes helps you understand whether your content is relevant and engaging to your audience. A spike in unsubscribes may indicate that your content or email frequency isn’t aligning with your audience’s expectations.

### **Marked as spam**

This shows how many recipients marked your email as spam, which is also known as “complaints” or “complaint rate.” A high number of spam complaints can damage your sender's reputation and potentially cause email providers to automatically filter your future emails into spam folders.

A commonly accepted spam complaint rate is around **0.1% or lower**. If your complaint rate exceeds this, you should carefully review your content to ensure it aligns with [email marketing best practices](https://www.mailgun.com/blog/deliverability/spam-complaint-rate/). Additionally, make sure your messaging is relevant and targeted to the right segments.

## **Recipient insights**

Below key metrics, navigate to the **Recipients** tab, which provides a detailed breakdown of individual recipient engagement. Here, you can track key events such as opens, clicks, bounces, and unsubscribes to analyze how your audience interacts with your emails.

Recipients are organized into different sub-tabs based on email events:

- All

- Opened

- Clicked

- Hard bounced

- Unsubscribed

- Marked as spam

Each list displays key details, including the recipient's name, email address, events, membership status (whether the recipient is a member of your community), and the timestamp of the last email activity.

You can use the **Search recipients** field at the top right of the sub-tab to quickly find specific recipients. In the field, enter their name or email and press **Enter**.

> 💡 **Tip:** You can also view the list of recipients from the **Broadcast** tab. In the **To** section, click the **Recipients**. You can see a list of recipients and criteria used to define recipients. You can also use the search bar to find a recipient in the list using a name or email address.

## **Links & files**

The **Links & files** tab gives you deeper insights into how your audience engages with specific links in your email. By analyzing which links were clicked—and how frequently—you can gauge the effectiveness of your content and calls to action (CTAs).

Let’s take a look at the information you can see within the following columns:

- **Name:** The **Name** column displays a list of all the links you have added to your email content. These links include:

- **Unique clicks:** Next to each link, you’ll see the number of unique clicks on the link, meaning each recipient is only counted once, no matter how many times they clicked the link. If a specific link has significantly more unique clicks than others, it suggests that the content or CTA around that link is particularly compelling.

- **Total clicks:** This metric shows the total number of clicks for each link, including multiple clicks from the same recipient. It’s useful for understanding how much overall interaction a particular link received. While unique clicks indicate how many people interacted with a link, total clicks reveal whether recipients found the content valuable enough to revisit it multiple times, indicating strong engagement.

### Viewing click reports

To access a detailed report for a specific link, simply select it from the list. The report includes:

- **Link URL** : The full web address of the link.

- **Recipients:** Details of recipients who clicked the link along with the total number of times each recipient clicked.

By leveraging this data, you can refine your content strategy, optimize CTAs, and improve audience engagement in future email campaigns.

## Export a CSV of your email analytics

You can export a CSV of your broadcast analytics directly from the analytics page, making it easy to analyze and act on your email performance. If your broadcast has **2,000 recipients or fewer** , the file downloads instantly. For broadcasts with **more than 2,000 recipients** , the export is generated and emailed to you.

The export includes each recipient’s name and email address, their engagement activity (opened or clicked), membership status, and last email activity, giving you a complete view of how your broadcast performed.

To export a CSV of your broadcast analytics, click the **Export CSV** button above the recipient list.
