Mention everyone in group DMs and chat spaces

Last updated: August 19, 2024

Want to make sure your message gets heard loud and clear? Group mentions enable you to notify and engage everyone at once, whether you're sharing vital updates, exciting news, or sparking conversations in chat spaces and direct messages.

Group mentions availability

Everyone who is part of the chat space or group DM can utilize the group mention feature on a desktop, mobile browser, or the Circle mobile app.

We support mentioning everyone who is part of a chat space or DM using the following keywords:

  • @space (exclusive to chat spaces)

  • @all

  • @everyone

It’s important to note that you can only mention everyone within parent messages. Group mention options are unavailable in threaded messages.

Using group mentions

To mention everyone in your group DM or chat space, simply type @ followed by a keyword, such as @everyone in the editor.

ℹ️ Note: If new messages are sent in a thread of a parent message where you mentioned everyone, those threaded messages won’t notify everyone. However, mentioning specific members within the thread will notify them according to their notification preferences for mentions.

Notifications

We offer in-app and push notifications for mentions in both chat spaces and group DMs. Both you and members part of the chat space or group DM have the ability to adjust these notifications for their accounts.

  • Chat spaces: You can adjust your preferences for mentions directly from the chat space or through the notification settings page. For more information, see Receiving chat space notifications.

  • Group DMs: You can manage the preferences for mentions by adjusting the Mentions option within the New activity section on the notification settings page. To learn more about DM notifications, refer to the guide on Receiving direct message notifications.
