Space duplication is a powerful feature that lets you replicate any existing space in your community. In this article, we will walk you through steps to effortlessly duplicate spaces.

## Unlock the benefits of space duplication

Replicating spaces manually, starting from scratch, can be an overwhelming endeavor. This feature can help you with it in many ways:

- If you are juggling multiple cohorts or groups, you can use duplication to ensure that the same space structure and content (for some space types) are maintained. This eliminates the hassle of starting from scratch every time for each new group.

- For those meticulously crafted post spaces filled with informative posts, resources, or guidelines, space duplication is a game-changer. If you are hosting separate groups that may require similar resources or guidelines, you can duplicate the same space in two different space groups with just a few clicks.

- Setting up a space from the ground up can be a time-consuming task. Duplicating spaces is the shortcut that saves you invaluable time and effort.

- You can craft ideal spaces for each space type and use them as templates. Create a space group that is only visible to you and has all your master spaces in there with your preferred settings. Whenever you need to create a space, you can duplicate the master space.

## Duplicable space content

When you duplicate spaces, certain things are replicated by default for all space types, such as:

- Space settings

- [Lock screen](https://help.circle.so/c/space-groups-spaces/how-do-i-set-up-a-lock-screen)

- [Space bookmarks](https://help.circle.so/c/space-groups-spaces/how-do-i-add-links-to-the-bookmarks-bar-within-spaces)

In addition, you have the option to choose specific content to duplicate depending on space type:

- **Post space:** You can replicate posts (including media and embeds) and members. The posts exclude comments and likes. If you decide to copy posts, pinned posts from the original space will keep the same structure in the duplicated space.

- **Event space:** Duplicating is limited to space members only.

- **Chat space:** You can duplicate chat spaces with its members. The duplication process excludes chat messages by default.

- **Course space:** You can replicate lessons (including media, embeds, and files) and members. The lesson comments and course progress are excluded from the duplication process by default.

- **Member space:** For member spaces, duplication applies only to members.

## Duplicate a space

As a community admin, you can duplicate any type of space on the spaces page in your community settings.

When you duplicate any space except course-type spaces, we keep the space access set to Secret by default. This ensures that the duplicated space is only accessible to you unless you decide to duplicate space members, add members from the space group, or include members from paywalls with all spaces access. You have the flexibility to change the access anytime after duplication.

On the other hand, course spaces are replicated in draft mode by default. This provides you with the opportunity to make necessary adjustments to lessons before establishing access for the space. Until you set the access for the course space, it will only be accessible to you and other admins of the community.

To get started with space duplicate:

1. Click **Community** in the left sidebar, then select **Spaces**.

2. Hover over the space you want to duplicate, click **More actions (three dots)** and select **Duplicate space**.

3. In the **Duplicate space** dialog:

4. Once ready, click **Duplicate space**.

5. You will see a dialog indicating the duplication process. If duplication is taking time, you can close the dialog and monitor the duplication in progress under the space group on the spaces page.
