Default pages help guide traffic, reduce friction, and shape engagement from the very first visit to your community.

## **About default landing pages**

When running a community, first impressions matter, whether someone is a new member, a returning member, or a curious visitor. The **Default pages** are crucial in creating those experiences.

Here are some practical ways to use default landing pages:

- **For visitors** : Set up a public custom page that introduces your community, outlines its benefits, and includes a clear call to action to join.

- **For new members** : Direct them to a welcome space that explains how the community works, highlights key areas, and invites them to introduce themselves.

- **For existing members** : Set the feed as the landing page so they can immediately see what’s new in the community, including posts, events, and trending discussions.

### Default pages on different platforms

Default landing pages behave slightly differently depending on how someone accesses your community. Here's how it works on each platform:

- **Web browsers** : On desktop or mobile browsers, default pages function exactly as set in your **Defaults** settings, for both logged-in members and logged-out visitors.

- **Circle desktop app** : Logged-in defaults apply the same way they do on the web. Members are taken to the assigned default page (set in your **Defaults** settings) after login. Logged-out defaults **do not apply** here, since users must be logged in to use the desktop app.

- **Circle mobile apps** : On our Circle mobile apps, when members go to the **Spaces** tab (where members can see and access spaces and space groups) from the top navigation, the default page (set in your **Defaults** settings) assigned to existing members is displayed as a **Pinned space** at the top. Logged-out defaults **do not apply** to Circle mobile apps. Visitors cannot browse your community without logging in.

- **Branded apps** : For logged-in members, you can define default landing behavior through the [**Branded apps**](https://help.circle.so/p/circle-plus/branded-apps/customize-branded-app-onboarding) settings. For visitors, you can set up **custom onboarding screens** , giving you full control over what they see before joining or signing in.

## **Set up default pages**

To get started:

1. Click the community name or logo (or the dropdown icon next to it) in the top-left corner and select **Settings**.

2. Scroll down to the **Website** section and select **Defaults**.

3. Make your desired changes to the default pages and click **Save changes**.

Here, you can see landing page options for both logged-in and logged-out users.

### Logged in defaults

This section controls what logged-in members see when they enter your community.

Navigate to the **Logged in defaults** section and select your preferred option from the dropdown menu:

- **Default page for existing members** : Choose the feed or one of the spaces where existing members will land when they log in to your community. Use this to bring attention to active conversations or direct traffic to strategic parts of your community.

- **Default page for new members** : Select the feed or one of the spaces that new members will see immediately after signing up. This could be a welcome space or an onboarding space designed to introduce them to your community.

### Logged out defaults

This setting controls what people see when they visit your community URL without being logged in.

You can choose from the following:

- **Feed** : Visitors see posts from open (public) spaces. Choose this if you have rich, public content that gives a strong sense of activity and value.

- **Space** : Select a specific open space as the landing page. This is ideal if you want to highlight one part of your community (like an event calendar or announcements hub). Make sure the space is set to be visible to logged-out users.

- **Page** : Use a [page](/p/administration/websites/create-a-page) you’ve built in Circle. This is a strong option for high-conversion use cases, like sales pages, landing pages, or public content hubs. You must publish the page first before you can select it here.

> ❗ **Important:** If your community is private and you select the feed or a space as the default page for visitors, logged-out users will be redirected to the sign-in page. To avoid this, use a custom page that’s publicly accessible.
