## About payments dashboard

Payment analytics provides comprehensive insights into your revenue streams via Circle paywalls. It helps you understand how your paywalls are performing and utilize this information to optimize your strategies.

This dashboard helps you provide answers to questions such as:

- **Which pricing models are generating the most revenue?**

- **How effective are paywall conversion strategies? **

- **How do one-time purchases compare with subscriptions and installments?**

- **What is the overall health and growth trend of revenue streams?**

- **How successful are trial offerings at converting users to paid subscriptions?**

> ❗ **Important** : Please note that all transaction amounts shown in the payment analytics are converted to the default settlement currency of your paywall-connected Stripe account. While you can charge members in any currency supported by paywalls, the analytics dashboard will display amounts in your default currency using current exchange rates. Consequently, there may be variations when comparing these amounts with your Stripe account.

## Overview

Gain a broad overview of all payment-related interactions within the community by navigating to the **Overview** tab within the dashboard.

These metrics help you understand the volume, revenue, and composition of transactions.

Use the breakdowns to focus on key revenue drivers and address paywall areas with lower revenue performance.

### Overall payment metrics

- **Transactions** : View the total number of transactions, including the one-time fee, subscription, and installment payments within the selected time frame. This also includes recurring payments from subscriptions and installments and any transactions that are fully or partially refunded.

- **Revenue** : Check the revenue generated from all transactions, including the one-time fee, subscription, and installment payments, within the selected time frame. This metric accounts for recurring payments and subtracts any refunded amounts.

- **Sales breakdown** : This chart shows the distribution of the number of one-time fee, subscription, and installment transactions within the selected time frame. This breakdown helps you understand the purchasing behavior and preference for paywalls.

- **Revenue breakdown:** This chart displays the revenue distribution from one-time fee, subscription, and installment transactions within the selected time frame.

### Revenue growth

Tracking revenue growth over time helps you analyze trends in your revenue streams and understand how different paywall pricing strategies are evolving.

This graph shows the following data:

- **Transactions** : Check revenue growth from all one-time fee, subscription, and installment transactions within the selected time frame.

- **Refunds** : Analyze trends in refunded transaction amounts over time.

To calculate growth, we add the revenue from the previous data grouping interval (daily, weekly, or monthly) to the revenue of the next data grouping interval (daily, weekly, or monthly), and so on. The same applies to the refund data.

For example, if you are looking at the last three months' time frame with monthly data grouping, this would be the calculation:

- Month 1 = Revenue of the month ($50)

- Month 2 = Revenue from month 1 ($50) + revenue from month 2 ($60) = $110

- Month 3 = Revenue from month 2 ($110) + revenue from month 3 ($70) = $180

### Highest grossing paywalls

This leaderboard helps you recognize the most successful monetization strategies and content.

In the leaderboard, you can see the highest-grossing paywalls by the total transaction amount (without subtracting refunds) and the number of transactions for each paywall within the selected time frame.

If you are offering multiple paywalls that provide access to different content within your communities, this leaderboard helps you identify which type of content is popular with members. Use this insight to develop and promote paywalled content that aligns with member preferences and purchasing behavior.

## Subscriptions

Navigate to the **Subscriptions** tab to gain insights into your subscription-based revenue and how paywalls with subscription pricing are performing.

### Key subscription metrics

Let's explore the key metrics available for subscriptions.

**Monthly recurring revenue (MRR)**

MRR is the predictable total revenue you can expect each month from active subscriptions. It is calculated by summing up the revenue generated by active subscriptions adjusted to monthly estimates for subscriptions billed daily, weekly, biweekly, quarterly, and annually.

> ℹ️ **Note:** Only coupons with forever duration are taken into consideration for MRR calculations. Coupons with one-time or repeating duration, as well as trials and installments are excluded from the calculation.

One great way to expand your MRR is to cross-sell to your existing members through coaching, VIP offerings, etc.

**Annual recurring revenue (ARR)**

ARR estimates the annual revenue derived from subscriptions. Similar to MRR, it covers different subscription intervals, such as daily, weekly, biweekly, monthly, and quarterly, and converts them into annual estimates.

This metric gives you a broader view of your recurring revenue over a year, making it easier to plan long-term strategies.

**Active subscribers**

This metric counts the number of active, unique subscribers, excluding those in trial periods. It provides a snapshot of your paying subscriber base within the community.

**New subscribers**

This metric provides the number of new subscribers and subscribers who have restarted their canceled subscriptions within the selected time frame. It excludes trial subscriptions.

Tracking new subscribers helps you gauge the effectiveness of your efforts and strategies for bringing subscribers.

**Net subscribers growth**

Net subscribers growth shows the change in the total number of subscribers over the selected time frame. This provides you with insight into the total number of subscribers gained or lost during the selected time frame.

This metric is calculated using the following formula:

**Net subscribers growth** = Total subscribers at the end of the time frame - Total subscribers at the beginning of the time frame

**Net MRR growth**

Similar to subscriber growth, this metric measures the change in your MRR over the selected time frame.

This metric is calculated by the following formula:

**Net MRR growth** = Total MRR at the end of the time frame - Total MRR at the beginning of the time frame

**Average monthly revenue per member**

This metric indicates how much revenue each active subscriber generates on average per month[.](http://month.it/) It’s calculated by dividing MRR by the total number of active subscribers.

**Churn rate**

The churn rate measures the rate at which subscribers cancel their subscriptions over a period. This is one of the key metrics that helps you understand how well you deliver continuous value that retains members.

Let’s say you want to see a churn rate for the quarter. At the beginning of the quarter, you had 140 subscribers, and 20 of them canceled their subscriptions by the end of that quarter.

The churn rate would be = (20 _÷_ 140) x 100 = 14.28%

**Active trials**

This metric shows the number of subscriptions in the trial period. Monitoring active trials helps you understand the potential for future conversions.

**Trial conversion**

Trial conversion tracks the number of subscriptions that converted from trial to paid recurring subscriptions. This metric indicates the effectiveness of your trial offerings and onboarding processes.

### Monthly recurring revenue (MRR) growth

MRR growth measures the change in subscription revenue each month, accounting for new subscriptions, renewals, and revenue lost due to churn.

This graph includes the following metrics:

- **Net change** : The total revenue from all recurring subscriptions minus the revenue lost from cancelations.

- **Churn** : The amount of MRR lost during the period due to cancelations.

- **Renewals** : MRR from current subscribers minus the new MRR gained from new subscribers during the period.

- **New** : The total revenue generated from new subscribers during the period.

Understanding MRR growth helps identify trends in revenue generation and areas for improvement. By tracking the metrics within the graph, you can gauge the effectiveness of your retention strategies and the overall health of your subscription model.

### Active subscriptions growth

Active subscription growth indicates the net change in your active subscriptions over time.

This graph shows the following metrics:

- **Net change** : The difference between new and canceled subscriptions.

- **Churn** : The number of subscriptions canceled during the period.

- **Renewals** : The count of current subscribers minus the new subscribers gained during the period.

- **New** : The number of new subscribers during this period.

Monitoring active subscription growth provides insights into how well your community is retaining existing subscribers and attracting new ones. This helps you understand the dynamics of your subscriber base and implement strategies to minimize cancelations.

## One-time

Navigate to the **One-time** tab to gain insights into your one-time fee revenue and how paywalls with one-time fee pricing are performing.

Let’s take a look at all the metrics available to you for one-time fee paywalls.

- **One-time transactions** : The number of all one-time transactions within the selected time frame. This also includes the number of transactions that are fully or partially refunded.

- **One-time revenue** : This is the total revenue from one-time transactions within the selected time frame, deducting any refunded amounts.

- **Average order value** : This is the average revenue per one-time fee transaction. This is calculated by dividing the sum of all one-time fee transaction amounts by the total number of transactions. This metric provides insight into the average amount members pay for one-time fee transactions.

- **Repurchases** : The number of times your one-time fee paywall has been repurchased by your members. This metric indicates the success of your purchasable paywalls.

## Conversions

Navigate to the **Conversions** dashboard to access the comprehensive view of how visitors interact with your paywalls. With metrics such as page views, conversions, bounce rates, and more, you can identify strengths and areas for improvement in your paywall setup and marketing strategies.

### **How tracking works**

- We identify visitors using their client IP. For the same client IP, a visit to the checkout page (page view) is counted once within 48 hours. Even if they visit the checkout page multiple times within this period, it will count as only one page view.

- Conversion tracking starts on June 1, 2024. Historical conversion data will not be available prior to this date.

- Page views only apply to **paywall checkout pages**. Page views are not tracked for any pages you have created using the website builder or any external web pages.

### **Number of page views**

This metric represents the total number of times a **paywall checkout page** has been viewed, including both first-time and repeat visits. If this number rises, it usually means your marketing or traffic sources are bringing in more people.

### **Conversions**

This is the total number of successful conversions where visitors make a purchase on the checkout page.

### **Conversion rate**

The conversion rate percentage is measured by the number of conversions divided by the number of page views, including both first-time and repeat visits.

This metric provides a clear measure of how effectively your paywall converts visitors into paid members. It also helps identify whether changes to the paywall or marketing strategy are needed.

### **Bounce rate**

This is the percentage of visitors who leave the paywall checkout page without purchasing the paywall.

High bounce rates may indicate that visitors are not finding the information they need or are deterred by the paywall's pricing. To lower the bounce rate, identify areas where the paywall experience can be improved, such as changes in marketing strategy, content clarity, or competitive pricing.

### **First-time visitors**

This is the number of unique visitors who view the paywall checkout page for the first time. This helps gauge the initial appeal of your paywall to new visitors.

### **Repeat visitors**

The number of unique visitors who return to the paywall checkout page after previously leaving it. Repeat visitors are counted every 48 hours.

This indicates the ongoing interest in your paywall offerings and measures the effectiveness of your re-engagement strategies.

### **Median time to convert**

This is the median time it takes from when a visitor lands on the paywall checkout page to when they make the purchase. This metric is displayed in **hh:mm:ss** format.

A high median time to convert may indicate that visitors find the information complex or confusing or have unresolved doubts. To address this, consider optimizing your strategy by providing clearer information or additional support to visitors.

### **Devices**

This chart shows the breakdown of devices that visitors use to view the paywall checkout page. It provides insights into the preferred devices of visitors and helps tailor marketing strategies to device-specific user behaviors.

### **Browser**

This chat displays the breakdown of the web browser that visitors use to view the paywall checkout page.

### **Referral URLs**

This leaderboard displays the web addresses that visitors were on immediately before arriving at the paywall checkout page. This helps identify the most effective traffic sources driving visitors to the paywall.

For example, a referral URL might be a specific page on your website, a community post, or a lock screen where paywall content and membership information are linked to the paywall checkout page. These sources can help you decide where to place targeted promotions, invest resources, and enhance certain pages to maximize the impact of your marketing strategies.

### **Country**

This map shows the geographic distribution of visitors viewing paywalls from various countries.

### **Conversion rate over time**

This graph shows the number of conversions divided by the number of page views, including both first-time and repeat visits over time.
