## About message analytics

Message analytics offers comprehensive insights into messaging activity across various communication channels in your community. It covers direct messages, group DMs, chat spaces, and Circle live, enabling you to track how these channels are performing and optimize your communications strategy.

This dashboard helps you provide answers to questions such as:

- **How active is the community in messaging and conversations?**

- **Who are the most active participants in messaging channels?**

- **How engaged are members in chat spaces and Circle live sessions?**

### Access message dashboard

To access the dashboard, click **Analytics** in the left sidebar, then select ** Messages**.

### Optimize dashboard usage with the following options

- **Member type:** Filter analytics data by [roles](https://help.circle.so/p/administration/analytics/access-your-community-analytics?locale=en#member-type-filter) within your community. By default, the member option is selected, which includes both member and moderator roles. You can choose to include admin roles in the analytics data by selecting the admin option in the filter.

- **Filters:** Utilize [filters](https://help.circle.so/p/administration/analytics/access-your-community-analytics?locale=en#filters) to segment your data by member tags, profile fields, space members, space group members, join dates, and more.

- **Date range (time frame)**: Narrow down the data to the [specific time frame](https://help.circle.so/p/administration/analytics/access-your-community-analytics?locale=en#date-range) for detailed analysis. You can select a predefined date range or set a custom date range.

- **Data grouping** : Use [data grouping](https://help.circle.so/p/administration/analytics/access-your-community-analytics?locale=en#data-grouping) options to analyze graph data within the dashboard at specific intervals, such as daily, weekly, and monthly.

- **Data sorting** : Easily sort data within leaderboards by clicking column titles. Depending on the data type, you can sort by value (lowest to highest) or alphabetically.

- **Previous period comparison:** [**Compare**](https://help.circle.so/p/administration/analytics/access-your-community-analytics?locale=en#previous-period-comparison) your current metrics to historical performance from the previous period, month or year to understand how your metrics are trending over time. Choose your reference from the comparison dropdown next to the date range.

- **Highlight graph data** : Hover over the values in the graph to enhance your viewing experience. This will highlight the relevant bars/data points within the graph for better visibility. When relevant, you can also see detailed data for the particular bar or data point on hover.

- **Download results** : You can easily[](https://help.circle.so/p/administration/analytics/access-your-community-analytics?locale=en#downloading-data-results)[export](https://help.circle.so/p/administration/analytics/access-your-community-analytics?locale=en#downloading-data-results) graphs, tables, and other data from analytics to your device in formats such as CSV, XLSX, or JSON. Simply hover over it, click the **More actions (three dots)** icon, and select **Download results**. Then, choose your preferred format to save the file.

## Messaging activity

Gain a broad overview of the volume and scope of interactions in your community.

### Conversations

View the total number of direct message conversations, group message conversations, chat spaces, and live events, including instant live stream/room sessions and Circle live stream/room events.

Note that this number reflects the total count of conversations, not the number of individual messages. A conversation is defined as one chat room, such as a direct message (DM) between you and a member. Similarly, if messages were sent in the chat space within the selected time frame, the chat space counts as one conversation.

### Chat messages

This is the total number of individual messages sent in direct messages, group DMs, chat spaces, and live events within the selected time frame.

### Message senders

This is the total number of unique members who have sent at least one message in direct messages, group DMs, chat spaces, and live events within the selected time frame.

Monitor the number of unique message senders to assess how many members are actively participating in conversations. A high number of senders typically indicates a healthy, engaged community.
