About the course dashboard

The course analytics dashboard provides detailed insights into how members are engaging with courses in your community. It allows you to track enrollments, completion rates, dropout trends, and quiz performance, enabling you to optimize your course offerings and improve student engagement.

This dashboard helps answer questions such as:

  • How many students are enrolling in and completing courses?

    • To track enrollments and completions, use metrics like total course enrollments and completions available on the dashboard. You can also analyze trends over time using the Course activity graph to see the trend within a specific time frame. If you need data for specific course spaces, use the Course spaces filter to refine results.

  • Which courses are the most popular?

    • To identify the most popular courses, use the Popular courses list in the dashboard. You can sort courses in this list by metrics such as enrollments, number of course completion, and course completion rate.

  • Who are your most active learners, and which students are dropping out?

    • The Active students and Dropout students leaderboards provide valuable insights into learner behavior. Leverage these insights to reward active learners and re-engage dropouts with targeted outreach.

Access course dashboard

To access the analytics dashboard, click Analytics in the left sidebar, then select Courses.

Optimize dashboard usage with the following options

  • Member type: Filter analytics data by roles within your community. By default, the member option is selected, which includes both member and moderator roles. You can choose to include admin roles in the analytics data by selecting the admin option in the filter.

  • Filters: Utilize filters to segment your data by member tags, profile fields, course space members, space group members, join dates, and more.

  • Date range (time frame): Narrow down the data to the specific time frame for detailed analysis. You can select a predefined date range or set a custom date range. All metrics in the courses dashboard will reflect data for the time frame you select here.

  • Data grouping: Use data grouping options to analyze graph data within the dashboard at specific intervals, such as daily, weekly, and monthly.

  • Data sorting: Sort data within leaderboards by clicking column titles. Depending on the data type, you can sort by value (lowest to highest) or alphabetically.

  • Previous period comparison: Compare your current metrics to historical performance from the previous period, month or year to understand how your metrics are trending over time. Choose your reference from the comparison dropdown next to the date range.

  • Highlight graph data: Hover over the values in the graph to enhance your viewing experience. This will highlight the relevant bars/data points within the graph for better visibility. When relevant, you can also see detailed data for the particular bar or data point on hover.

  • Download results: You can easily export graphs, tables, and other data from analytics to your device in formats such as CSV, XLSX, or JSON. Simply hover over it, click the More actions (three dots) icon, and select Download results. Then, choose your preferred format to save the file.

Courses overview

Gain a snapshot of your course performance using key metrics:

  • Course enrollments: Displays the total number of students who have enrolled in your courses within the selected time frame.

  • Course completions: Indicates the total number of course completions by students during the specified period. For instance, if five students complete entire courses during the selected period, that will be reflected in the count of course completions.

  • Completion rate: This represents the average course completion rate as of the end date of the selected time frame. It reflects how far students are advancing through your courses on average.

  • Completion overview: This chart shows the percentage breakdown of the average completion rate within the selected time frame. The chart groups students into completion bands (e.g., 0%, 1–25%, 26–50%) to show the percentage of learners in each range. Hover over the chart to view the exact number of students at each completion level and their corresponding percentage of the total.

ℹ️ Note: If a member joins and leaves a course within the specified time frame, they will not be counted toward enrollment metrics. The enrollment count is unique and only considers a member's enrollment in the course space once.

Similarly, if a member leaves the course after completing a few lessons, their lesson completions will not be factored into the average course completion rate.

Course activity

The course activity graph provides an insightful look at trends over time within the selected time frame. It includes the following data points:

  • Course enrollments: Number of enrollments within your courses.

  • Courses started: Number of courses students began. A course is considered "started" when a student initiates it and completes the first lesson.

  • Courses completed: Number of course completions by students.

  • Course dropouts: Reflects the number of students who withdrew from courses. A student is classified as a dropout if they haven’t completed any lessons in the past 30 days and haven’t finished the course.

By closely monitoring this trend, you can make data-driven decisions to improve course quality, increase student retention, and optimize overall learning outcomes.

This section ranks courses by popularity within the selected time frame. Key metrics include:

  • Enrollments: The total number of students who enrolled in each course during the selected period.

  • Started: The number of students who started the course.

  • Completed: The number of students who completed the course.

  • Average completion rate: The average percentage of students who successfully completed each course by the end of the time frame.

By analyzing these metrics, admins can identify which courses are resonating most with learners. You can replicate elements from popular courses in other courses to boost overall performance.

Active students

This leaderboard highlights learners who are actively engaging with courses during the selected time frame. Key metrics include:

  • Lessons: The total number of lessons a student has completed within the selected period.

  • Enrollments: The number of courses a student has enrolled in during the time frame.

  • Started: Tracks the number of courses a student has started.

  • Completed: Displays the number of courses a student has completed.

  • Completion rate: The average percentage of courses completed by the student.

  • Last active: The date when the student was last active in courses.

You can use this data to identify and acknowledge your most engaged learners. Recognizing top students not only motivates them but also provides valuable insights into which learners may benefit from additional support or recognition.

Dropout students

This section lists students considered "dropouts" based on inactivity during the selected time frame. A student is classified as a dropout if they haven’t completed any lessons in the past 30 days and haven’t finished their course either. Key metrics include:

  • Course name: The title of the course the student is enrolled in.

  • Lessons completed: The number of lessons the student has completed in the course.

  • Completion rate: The percentage of the course that the student has completed.

  • Last active: The date when the student was last active in the course.

You can use this data to identify inactive students and take action to re-engage them. Personalized outreach, such as DMs, feedback calls, or incentives, can help bring them back to the course and encourage them to complete their learning journey.

Quizzes

The Quizzes section provides a ranked list of quizzes from your courses within the selected time frame. The following metrics are tracked for each quiz:

  • Students count: The number of students who attempted the quiz.

  • Total submissions: The total number of quiz submissions made by students, including retakes.

  • Average attempts per student: The average number of attempts students made to complete the quiz.

  • Required passing grade: The minimum score students must achieve to pass the quiz.

  • Average grade: The average score attained by all students who attempted the quiz.

  • Pass and fail counts: The number of students who passed or failed the quiz.

  • Pass rates: The percentage of students who passed the quiz.

You can utilize this data to evaluate quiz performance, identify trends, and adjust course content or quiz difficulty if needed.
