Circle sales tax overview

Last updates: October, 2026

As Circle continues to grow globally, we’re required to collect sales tax in additional jurisdictions where we operate. Sales tax will be applied to comply with local tax regulations and is calculated based on your billing location.

All Circle subscriptions are subject to applicable taxes. Once tax collection begins in your region, it applies to all future invoices unless you’re eligible for an exemption.

Each jurisdiction sets its own tax rate, which is automatically calculated and included as a separate line item on your invoice. If you’re a registered business, you may be able to reduce or eliminate these charges (depending on your local tax laws) by providing your Business or Tax ID.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

I haven't been charged tax before. Why am I being taxed now?

As Circle grows globally, we’re required by law to collect sales tax in jurisdictions where we operate. This is part of our compliance with local tax regulations in your region, not a change to your subscription, pricing, or Circle’s fees. We’re applying tax only where and when local tax authorities require it.

How much tax will be charged?

The tax rate depends on your billing location. Different jurisdictions have different rates, and the applicable rate for your region will be automatically calculated and displayed on your invoice.

Will sales tax be applicable to all my invoices going forward?

Yes, once tax collection begins in your region, it will apply to all future invoices unless you're eligible for an exemption (see below).

Are all Circle subscriptions subject to tax?

All Circle subscriptions are subject to applicable taxes based on your billing location. However, if you're a registered business, you may be able to avoid these charges by providing your Business/Tax ID.

How do I add my Business/Tax ID to my account?

Navigate to your Community Billing section and enter your Business Registration Number or VAT/GST ID. Need help? Check out this step-by-step guide.

The tax on my invoice is for the wrong country. How do I fix this?

Tax is calculated based on your billing address. To update it, go to your Community Billing section and ensure your address matches the location of your business.

I'm a tax-exempt organization. How do I submit my certificate?

Send your valid tax exemption certificate to support@circle.so with your community name. Our team will review and apply the exemption to your account.
