Get to know upsells

Using upsells to increase your order value

Earn more from every customer, every time someone buys. With Upsells, you can offer your audience an additional offer or upgrade, like a bonus course, a 1:1 coaching session, or a premium membership tier

Instead of interrupting the original purchase, the upsell offer appears after the purchase and before the thank-you page, so members can accept it in one step.

Upsells can be delivered as add-ons or Upgrades:

  • Add-on: Offer members an additional item alongside their main purchase. Use this to pair products, such as offering a premium course with a subscription or adding a recurring subscription to a one-time purchase.

  • Upgrade: Offer members a higher-tier plan or a longer billing cycle. Circle handles the plan swap, the subscription change, and charges the price difference immediately. Use this to offer customers your annual plan the moment they commit to a monthly plan, or to offer new customers your top-tier plan right after they join.

Here are a few ways to use upsells to grow revenue and offer members more value.

  • Turn a purchase into a longer commitment: Offer a monthly-to-annual upgrade right after someone subscribes. This gives members the option to commit for longer while helping you earn more revenue upfront.

  • Help members move to a higher-value plan: Offer an upgrade from a basic membership to a premium tier with additional benefits, such as one-on-one coaching or exclusive content, at a reduced rate.

  • Pair the main purchase with a complementary add-on: Use an add-on to offer a related course, a 1:1 coaching session, or a recurring membership alongside a one-time purchase. Members get something that supports their original purchase, and you create an opportunity to earn more from each sale.

Upsell analytics

Track how your upsell offers are performing and how they contribute to your revenue. The Upsells tab on the Payments analytics page lets you view revenue metrics, including checkout revenue, checkout revenue lift, lifetime revenue, and lifetime revenue lift, alongside funnel metrics, including views, conversions, declines, abandons, conversion rate, and median time to convert. Revenue metrics show the direct financial impact of your upsells, and funnel metrics show how members move through and respond to the offer.

To access your upsell analytics:

  1. Click Analytics in the left sidebar and select Payments.

  2. Click the Upsells tab.
